Men?s Golf Defeats Xavier to Close Match Play

FINAL RESULTS
DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Ball State men's golf team defeated Xavier 4-2 in Tuesday's seventh-place match to close out the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
Redshirt sophomore Keegan McKinney was a big winner, claiming a 6&5 victory over Matt Gerard at the No. 5 position in the lineup. The seventh-seeded Cardinals also took the top three positions to account for their four points against the No. 4 seed Musketeers.
Johnny Watts won for the third straight match at the No. 1 spot to finish undefeated for the week. His match Tuesday was his first of the event to make it to the 18th hole as he defeated Daniel Wetterich, 1 up.
Michael VanDeventer was a 1 up winner at the No. 2 spot, while James Blackwell earned a 4&2 victory at the No. 3 position.
Eastern Michigan finished as the champion with a 3.5-2.5 win over No. 2 seed Notre Dame in the title match. Top seed Miami won the third place match over Toledo, while Dayton defeated Ohio for fifth place.
This week's event was the first of the spring season for Ball State. The Cardinals will return to action March 7-8 at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C.
