
Women's Tennis Wins Saturday Doubleheader

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team defeated Detroit Mery and Valparaiso, 6-1, at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center Saturday. The Cardinals improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Titans fell to 0-3 and the Crusaders slipped to 1-3.
The Cardinals captured the doubles point in both matches today and then went on to dominate singles play dropping only two matches total against both opponents.
Ball State closed its day with a victory over Valaparaiso. First off the court was the No. 1 doubles tandem of Audrey Berger and Peyton Gollhofer who defeated Kathleen Hebble and Paige Heuer, 6-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Bethany Moore and Isabelle Dohanics secured the doubles point for the Cardinals with their 6-1 defeat over Randi Wind and Halle Roach.
In singles action, Ball State took five of the six matches from the Crusaders all in straight sets.
Against the Titans, the Cardinals dominated doubles action taking all three matches from Detroit Mercy. Carmen Blanco teammed up with Rosalinda Calderon and won the first doubles game of the day over the Titans Valeryia Kulikovskay and Viktoria Laskutova by a score of 6-2 on court two. The Ball State doubles tandem of Julia Sbircea and Bethany Moore defeated Iris Thioux and Nynke Van Der Goot 7-5 at the No. 3 spot to claim the doubles point for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals then took their momentum into singles action taking five of the six from the Titans. At No. 1 singles, Blanco took a three set thriller from Kulikovskay after dropping her first set 6-3. Blanco came back to win 6-2, 1-0 (3). Peyton Gollhofer, Sbircea, Audrey Berger and Isabelle Dohanics all won in straight set at their respective positions.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its seven-match homestand when it hosts Southern Illinois Friday at 2 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
