Men's Swim & Dive To Host Miami For Senior Day

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's swimming and diving program will welcome Mid-American Conference opponent Miami in its final event of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. The matchup will feature a special Senior Day recognition session for Cole Smith prior to the start of the meet, and will be an opportunity for Ball State students to earn 300 bonus Student Rewards points.
Most recently, the Cardinals faced MAC foe Evansville on the road and the narrow matchup came down to the final two events, although the Cardinals ultimately fell 151.5-148.5 to the Purple Aces.
The first event win of the day came from sophomore Isaac Walling when he was first to touch the wall in the 1000 freestyle. Walling came in with a 10:00.92, which was then followed by JD Middleton's second place finish with a 10:04.07 final, which marked a new season-best for the junior.
Andrew Carlson branched off the momentum when he turned in an individual event win in the 200 freestyle right after with a 1:45.90 final. Carlson went on to earn a second individual event win when he marked a 4:50.35 in the 500 freestyle later in the meet.
In the diving well, freshmen Lane Sawyer and Gabe Dean combined to contribute 11 points for Ball State. It was in the one-meter diving event that Sawyer finished second overall with a score of 211.35, while Dean earned a 170.47 mark for fourth. Later on in three-meter diving action, Sawyer earned a third place finish with a score of 211.50, while Dean followed in fourth with a score of 202.50.
The Cardinals last faced Miami when they traveled to Oxford, Ohio Feb. 7, 2015, although Ball State fell in a 160-135 final. In its three events since the semester break, the RedHawks narrowly fell to Cincinnati (151-147), Buffalo (230.5-76.5) and Eastern Michigan (184-109), resulting in a 0-5 overall record this season, including a 0-2 mark in MAC action. This weekend will mark the final event of the season for the Miami men's swimming and diving program as well, leading into the MAC Championships.
In the conference standings, Miami swimmers mark top-10 times seven on seven occasions, including junior Lucas Brock twice. Brock is seventh overall in both the 50 freestyle (20.70) and the 100 freestyle (45.71).
Looking ahead, the Ball State men's swimming and diving team will take on the Mid-American Conference Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. from March 2-5 to round out the 2015-16 season.
