Watts Leads Men’s Golf on Day 1 at Ka’anapali

Cardinals middle of the pack through round one
LEADERBOARD
LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Johnny Watts led the Ball State men's golf team with an even-par round of 71 Friday on the opening day of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic.
The Cardinals posted a team score of 296 (+12) to find themselves 12th in the field of 24 teams at the Royal Ka'anapali Course.
South Carolina (-2) leads the way after day one, while LSU (-1) is second. Georgia and Clemson share the third spot at even par. This week's event features eight of the top 50 teams in the Golfstat national rankings.
Ball State also counted a 73 from Michael VanDeventer, a 74 from Michael Makris and a 78 (from both Timothy Wiseman and Keegan McKinney) in the opening round.
Watts is tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard, five shots off the pace set by Clemson's Doc Redman and South Carolina's Keenan Huskey. Fifteen players in the field are ranked among the top 100 nationally.
The second round gets underway Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. local time (2:30 ET). The final round will be played Sunday.
