Cross Country Places Two on Academic All-MAC Squad

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - Two members of the Ball State cross country program were named to the 2016 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Cross Country Team as announced by the league office Friday (Nov. 18).

Student-athletes with a minimum 3.20 grade-point average who participate in at least 50 percent of their team's meets are automatically named to the squad. First-year players and junior college transfers are not eligible.
Senior Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola), who scored in two of the six meets she competed in for the Cardinals this season, earns the honor for the third consecutive season. A nursing major with a 3.591 GPA, Rinehart was Ball State's third-best runner at the Bradley Pink Classic (Oct. 14), crossing the 6K finish line in 22:40.3. She finished her cross country career with a career-best 6K time of 22:39.1 to place fifth on the team at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional (Nov. 11).

Junior Jessica Bryzek (Brownsburg, Ind./Indiana Academy), who scored in five of the six meets she competed in for the Cardinals this season, earns the award for the second time. A biology major with a 3.681 GPA, Bryzek led the Cardinals to the finish line at the Indiana Intercollegiate (Sept. 16) with a 5K time of 19:31.41. She was Ball State's second-fastest runner at the Joe Piane Invitational (Sept. 30) with a career-fast 5K time of 18:24.8. She also finished fourth on the team at the season-opening Butler Open (Sept. 2), and fifth on the team at the Bradley Pink Classic (Oct. 14) and the MAC Championship (Oct. 29).

With the cross country season now wrapped up, the pair of Ball State distance runners will turn their attention to training for the indoor track & field season which is set to begin Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Mastodon Opener in Fort Wayne.
