November 14, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Senior forward scored 23 points in season-opening win at Saint Louis
MUNCIE, Ind. -- After leading the Ball State men's basketball team to a season-opening win at Saint Louis, Franko House has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
House matched his career-high with 23 points Friday in the Cardinals' 85-64 road victory. The senior forward from Elkhart, Indiana, was 9 for 12 from the floor, including a perfect 4 for 4 from 3-point range. He had never previously made more than two 3's in a game, but he matched that number in the first four minutes after spending the offseason working to improve his outside shot.Â
House added six rebounds and three assists. He tallied Ball State's first eight points of the game and went on to score his 23 points in 25 minutes of action. He helped the Cardinals build a double-digit lead in the opening five minutes, and they eventually stretched the margin to as many as 27.
House was an All-MAC Second Team and All-Defensive Team performer last season. He was a preseason all-conference selection this year.
Ball State returns to action Tuesday with its home opener against Indiana State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Worthen Arena in the 131st all-time meeting between the rivals.
