MUNCIE, Ind. – After a tough loss in the home opener to Ohio State on Monday, the Ball State field hockey team looks to get its first home win Sunday as the Cardinals take on Longwood in conference action.
Ball State is up against a tough Longwood team, which leads the Mid-American Conference in goals scored with 31. Longwood's Leonie Verstraete ranks second in the MAC with 53 shots through 10 games. Edel Nyland leads the MAC with 12 goals for the Lancers.
In goal, senior Jordan Dues is either tied or ranks better than Longwood's goalkeeper in all MAC statistical categories. Last year in the 3-1 road loss to the Lancers, Dues posted 12 saves on 22 attempts.
The last time the Cardinals beat Longwood was in 2010 in a 3-2 overtime victory. The Lancers have won three straight meetings against Ball State.
Following Sunday's game, Ball State will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 13 against the Ohio Bobcats at the Briner Sports Complex. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The Cardinals will also be home on Sunday, Oct. 16 as they take on La Salle in their 'Think Pink' game.
