Field Hockey Gets First Conference Win

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team defeated Longwood 2-1 marking the team's first conference and home win of the season.
Longwood (6-6) struck first with a goal by Jordan Champan assisted by Edel Nyland in the 21st minute. The goal came on a deflection off another Longwood player.
The Lancers didn't lead the Cardinals for long. Ball State's Merinda Morley scored her first goal of the season in the 22nd minute of the game off a penalty corner assisted by senior Mikayla Mooney and senior Bryce Barnes.
The game remained tied 1-1 until the 51st minute when junior Abbey Main connected with the back of the cage for the second time this season.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Dues had five saves.
Today's win marks the first time Ball State (6-7) has defeated Longwood since 2010. The victory is also the first Cardinals' conference win since the 2014 season when they defeated Missouri State 5-0 in Muncie.
Ball State is now 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play and will look to get another conference win on Thursday, Oct. 13 as they take on Ohio at home.
