Game Day Central: Cardinals Aim to Bounce Back to Win Column at CMU
October 05, 2016 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Saturday's football game between Ball State and Central Michigan feature two teams traveling down similar paths.
Both teams dropped their Mid-American Conference opener last week and are anxious to pick up their first league win. Ball State (3-2, 0-1 MAC) had its opportunities in a 31-24 loss to Northern Illinois, as the Cardinals moved the ball into NIU territory on their final four drives. However, Ball State only mustered a score on one of those possessions.
For Central Michigan (3-2, 0-1), the Chippewas dropped a disappointing 49-10 decision to rival Western Michigan in the battle for the Victory Cannon. Western scored 35 straight points stretching from late in the first quarter through midway in the third quarter to run away from Central Michigan.
Ball State and Central Michigan want to avoid falling to 0-2 in the MAC, which makes this a pivotal game for both teams. If the previous two meetings between these teams is any indication, Saturday's contest should be a very tight game.
Central Michigan held off Ball State last year in Muncie, 23-21. The Cardinals had two possessions late in the game to score the go-ahead points, but CMU's defense forced a turnover on downs on both occasions. In 2014, Ball State's Scott Secor converted all four field goal attempts, including a 55-yarder with 17 seconds remaining, to give the Cardinals a 32-29 victory.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on the American Sports Network and ESPN3 while radio coverage will be on Ball State's flagship station, WLBC 104.1 FM.
