Lucas Andersen Wins Flight; Tennis Closes Fall Season At WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Ball State men's tennis senior Lucas Andersen won the Flight 1 Men's Singles Championship at the MAC Indoor Fall Invite held this weekend at Western Michigan.
Andersen advanced to the championship match in Flight 1 singles after defeating Petr Vodak of Buffalo 6-2, 6-2 and host Maik Steiner of Western Michigan 6-2, 7-5, on Saturday. Andersen won the flight after taking down the Broncos Kennosuke Nouchi in three sets, 6-7 (8), 7-5, 10-7.
In Flight 2 singles, Andrew Stutz began Saturday's competition with a three set thriller over Northern Illinois' Carlos Manzanas (6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-8). He would then lose in the quarterfinals to Western Michigan's Jannik Opitz, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (3). Also in singles action, Nemanja and twin brother Marko Guzina along with teammate Matt Helm each won their first round matches in their respective flights.
The Cardinals played their doubles matches on Friday, Lucas Andersen and Andrew Stutz took down the Huskies Erich Marbach and Georg Lundkvist by a score of 8-6 before losing to Western Michigan in their second match. The twosome did take a third place finish in the Flight 1 doubles after posting an 8-6 victory over the Broncos Maik Steiner and Jannik Opitz. Ball State's duo of Matt Helm and Tom Carney closed out the doubles play for the Cardinals with an 8-3 defeat over America Valenti and Sebastian Quiros of Binghamton in Flight 3 doubles.
The Ball State men's tennis team will open its spring season Friday, Jan. 20 at Notre Dame. First serve is at 3:30 p.m.
