Cross Country Set for Friday’s Bradley “Pink” Classic

MUNCIE, Ind. - - In its final tune-up before the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships, the Ball State cross country team heads to Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., for the 2016 Bradley "Pink" Classic.
Nine Cardinals are scheduled to race in the 6K Women's Red Race which is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. (CT). A total of 32 teams are currently entered in the race, including Mid-American Conference rival Toledo and several in-state opponents. Friday's run on the Newman Golf Course will mark the first 6K event for the Cardinals this season, with six of Ball State's nine runners competing at the distance for the first time in their careers. It will also be the only 6K race for the Cardinals prior to the Oct. 29 MAC Championships hosted by Kent State at the Kent State University Golf Club.
Freshman Emily Tromp (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) looks to lead the Cardinals entering the meet, as she has paced the squad to the finish link in the last two events. Last time out, Tromp placed 68th among scored runners with a career-fast 5K time of 18:17.0 at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The effort was the fastest 5K for the Cardinals since Oct. 3, 2014 when then-senior Courtney Edon clocked in at 18:02.0 at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Overall, Ball State's five scored runners at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational finished within 14.5 seconds of each other. In addition, seven of the Cardinals' nine runners turned in personal best 5K times in the race, including each of Ball State's top six competitors.
