MUNCIE, Ind. – With a win against the Central Michigan Chippewas on Friday, the Ball State (7-10, 2-3 MAC) field hockey team has a chance to be considered for the MAC tournament for the first time since 2011.
The last time the field hockey team competed in the MAC tournament, it fell to Miami in the first round, 2-1. The 2011 squad was 4-16 on the season and 4-6 in the MAC.
Central Michigan (1-16, 0-5 MAC) leads the conference in saves with 146 through 17 games. The Chippewas average 8.59 saves per game and a .638 save percentage. CMU also ranks first in the MAC in defensive saves with 12.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Dues goes into Friday's matchup first in the conference with 82 saves through 17 games, an average of 4.82 saves per game and a .683 save percentage.
Seniors Mikayla Mooney and Lexi Kavanaugh are co-leaders in goals with four. Mooney enters this week with two assists, 10 points and 25 shots. Kavanaugh has three assists, 11 points and 23 shots.
Friday marks the final regular season game for the Cardinals, but they hope to take a trip to Kent, Ohio next week for a post season matchup.
