Women’s Tennis Ends Fall Play At ITA Regionals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Ball State women's tennis team ended fall play this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals hosted by Middle Tennessee State.
Senior Toni Ormond pulled off an upset over ninth seeded Adreanna Christopoulou from Western Kentucky. Ormond started the match off slow losing the first set by a score of 6-4. She then came back in the second set winning in tiebreaker fashion 7-6 (6) before taking the match from Christopoulou in the third set, 6-2. Junior Carmen Blanco also advanced past the round of 64 with her straight set (6-2, 6-2) win over Big Ten foe Indiana's Paula Gutierrez who was the No. 5 seed.
Sophomore Audrey Berger also found success at the regionals after winning two matches in the qualifier which advanced her to the main draw. Berger took each of her respective opponents in three set thrillers defeating Xavier's Vanina Lordanova (6-0, 4-6, 6-3) and Louisville's Olivia Boesing (2-6, 6-4, 6-3).
The Cardinals wrapped up their fall play on the third day of competition Saturday with four victories in the Consolation Singles bracket. Junior Julia Sbircea earned straight set wins over Middle Tennessee State's Sarah Sediri and Vanderbilt's Payton Robinette. Ormond defeated IU's Gutierrez and Blanco captured a two set tiebreaker over Tennessee's Brittany Lindl.
