Field Hockey Victorious over Michigan State
October 02, 2016 | Field Hockey
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Ball State field hockey team picked up its fifth win of the season thanks to a 3-2 win at Michigan State Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored the first two goals of the game, the first score being a breakaway goal by sophomore forward Darbi Gullett on an Abbey Main assist in 15th minute.
The Cards quickly went up 2-0 with a score from redshirt freshman Hannah Bohn from the top of the circle on a pass from sophomore Anya Eicher in the 17th minute. That goal marked Bohn's first goal of her career.
Michigan State's Megan Fenton scored her ninth goal of the season and pulled the Spartans within one in the 20th minute of the contest.
Ball State's Abbey Main scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 27th minute. The Spartans answered back scoring the only goal in the second half with a score from Grace Santi, but the Cardinals proved to be too much. The Cards never trailed on the day.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Dues had three saves on the day.
The last time Ball State (5-6) beat a Big Ten school was in 2014 with a 2-1 overtime victory also over Michigan State (5-6).
After 11 games on the road, the Cardinals will look to take down another Big Ten school as they host Ohio State in their home opener on Monday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m.
