MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team will round out its home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 23 as the Cardinals take on Miami at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals will take time to recognize and celebrate the five seniors, Bryce Barnes, Lexi Kavanaugh, Morgan Nash, Mikayla Mooney, and Jordan Dues, for their hard work and dedication for the last four years.
Barnes is a four year letterwinner on defense. Barnes recorded her first career goal on Nov. 1, 2014 against Miami. For the 2016 season, Barnes has one goal, three assists and five points.
Kavanaugh led the team in scoring for her first three seasons and is currently tied for first in goals (four) so far in the 2016 season. The forward made her first career goal in her first collegiate game on Sept. 1, 2013 at James Madison.
Nash made her first career start in her freshman season against then #12 Northwestern. The midfielder/forward notched her first career goal against Mid-American Conference opponent Ohio on Oct. 19, 2013.
Mooney, a four year letterwinner, recorded her first collegiate shot and assist in the 2-1 win over Colgate on Sept. 8, 2013. The midfielder is one of two captains for the 2016 Cardinals and currently shares the lead for goals scored with four.
Dues, the team's goalie, recorded her first collegiate save versus Kent State on Oct. 19, 2013. Dues has played in all 15 games in goal for the Cardinals this season, tallying 1103:47 minutes and 76 saves. Dues goes into this week with a .643 save percentage.
The seniors and the rest of the squad will look to earn two more conference wins this week. The Cardinals travel to Springfield, Missouri to take on Missouri State (2-9, 1-3 MAC) on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. The Bears are second in the Mid-American Conference with 6.64 saves per game.
Ball State will then take on MAC opponent Miami (8-7, 3-1 MAC) on Sunday in its final home game. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The seniors will be honored prior to the game. The Redhawks are ranked second in the MAC with five shutouts. Miami is also ranked second in the MAC with an average of 16.00 shots per game.
