Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Butler, 7-0

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (1-1) opened home action with a 7-0 win over Butler (0-5) Friday evening in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
"It was great to see all 8 players out there today," Ball State women's tennis coach Max Norris said. "I think we had a good first team win and set a good tone for our season. We're excited to get back to work."
The Cardinals took an early 1-0 advantage over the Bulldogs after sweeping doubles play 3-0 over Butler. At No. 2 doubles, Peyton Gollhofer paired up with Audrey Berger to take the first match from the Bulldogs. The duo refused to sacrifice a game against Butler's doubles tandem Konstantina Adami and Kailey Eaton, winning the match 6-0. Carmen Blanco and Rosalinda Calderon took a 6-3 victory over Bailey Padgett and Jocelyn Koester on court one which claimed the point for the Cardinals.
In singles action, Isabelle Dohanics took down Callie Schmit on court six in straight sets to put Ball State up 2-0 over Butler. On court two, Toni Ormond followed suit and defeated Konstantina Adami to which gave the Cardinals their third point of the match. Berger then earned the win for Ball State with her straight set (6-1, 6-2) defeat over Jordan Minnick at the No. 5 spot. Carmen Blanco, Julia Sbircea and Gollhofer ended the match with singles victories.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its 2016 spring play when it hosts Detroit-Mercy Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. The Cardinals will also host Valparaiso that day at 6 p.m.
