Alum Jen Brown Mascari Added To Field Hockey Staff

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team has announced Jen Brown Mascari, a 1997 All-American and two-time Academic All-American for the Cardinals, as its volunteer assistant coach.
A native of Ephrata, Pa., Mascari has accumulated years of both playing and coaching experience. In addition to helping the Ball State field hockey program, Mascari works at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville, Ind.
Mascari capped off her Ball State field hockey career by receiving the 1997-98 Woody Hayes National Female Scholar-Athlete Award, which is selected from all female NCAA Division I student-athletes in all sports. She was part of a class which notched four MAC Championships and three berths in the NCAA Tournament, including two Final Eight appearances. The midfielder was also selected to participate in the 1997 NFHCA Senior All-Star Game and was named to the All-Midwest Region First Team three consecutive seasons (1995-97).
Mascari helped the Cardinals to a 70-19-2 overall record, including an undefeated 45-0 record against Mid-American Conference opponents, while playing for head coach Karen Fitzpatrick. The four-year letter winner started all 91 games during her career and tallied the game-winning goal seven times, while also producing seven career hat tricks. She was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
The 1996 MAC Player of the Year, Mascari earned All-MAC First Team honors her final three seasons, after being named to the All-MAC Second Team her freshman year. She was also the second player in school history to earn MAC Freshman of the Year in 1994, and tallied 12 MAC Player of the Week honors by the end of her senior campaign.
Mascari excelled both on and off the field, earning GTE At-Large Academic All-America First Team honors (1996-97), Academic All-MAC First Team recognition (1995-97) and National Academic Team accolades (1995-97). She earned the 1997 MAC Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, was a two-time MAC Commissioner's Award for Academic Excellence honoree (1995-96) and was named to GTE At-Large Academic All-District V accolades in 1996 and 1997.
Mascari earned her bachelor's degree in physical education with minors in health and adapted physical education at Ball State in 1999 and went on to complete her master's degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Al.
Prior to working at Guerin Catholic High School, Mascuri was the wellness instructor, head girls softball coach and assistant girls soccer coach at Culver Academy in Culver, Ind.
She and her husband, Tommy Mascari, have three children, Kirsten (11), Paige (9), and Tommy (4).
