Field Hockey Falls 0-4 To Rutgers In Season Opener
August 29, 2015 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Ball State (0-1) field hockey team dropped an 0-4 decision against undefeated Rutgers (2-0) Saturday afternoon to open the 2015 season.
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Dues (Fallbrook, Calif./Fallbrook) tallied an aggressive seven saves for a 0.636 save percentage, while the Cardinals marked five shot attempts.
“I felt that the team worked really hard throughout the whole game and they certainly responded to the level of intensity throughout the game,” Ball State field hockey head coach Sally Northcroft said. “At times we had some really great passing sequences and really fantastic connections. I think Jordan Dues did a wonderful job in goal as a keeper and Cameron Daniels as the center back certainly held things together well on defense.”
Rutgers attacked the net with four goals from four different players, on a total of 23 attempted shots. Scoring three of the four goals off of penalty corner opportunities, the Scarlet Knights capitalized off of eight corners to the Cardinals two.
“We know where we are and what we need to do to get better,” Northcroft said. “We're looking forward to the game tomorrow with a short turnaround. It's going to be about refocusing and fixing the things that we need to do to be better tomorrow and take it from there.”
The Ball State field hockey team returns to action tomorrow, Aug. 30, when they take on Lafayette at 12 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
