Field Hockey Season Insight With Coach Northcroft
August 26, 2015 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State field hockey head coach Sally Northcroft previewed the 2015 season with BallStateSports.com to tell fans what they can expect to see from the new age of the historical program.
In your viewpoint, what are the strengths of the 2015 team?
SN: The team has a great attitude and everyone is willing to put in the effort with every new piece of information we deliver. They are supportive and are encouraging each other - which is what we need to get to the next level!
What are some of the major goals of preseason camp?
SN: Our goals were to design our philosophy and determine the types of values that define the Field Hockey team. We also wanted to work harder than we have before - which we definitely achieved.
Are there any key position battles that need to be resolved before the start of the regular season?
SN: There are no specific positions that we believe are held by any one person. Each day there is an opportunity to challenge for a position and then we will mould our structure around the players who are performing consistently at the level we need to be competitive.
What can fans expect to see from the 2015 Ball State field hockey program?
SN: Lots and lots of energy! The fans should see the excitement and passion that each player has for the sport and the university. We care very deeply about each other and about making this program a success. Our style will be demonstrated with moving up and back as a group - lots of small passing and dynamic shots on goal.
What are some matchups that you and the team are looking forward to?
SN: Every game is going to be a challenge for us. As always, our Conference competition will bring another level of excitement as we look to improve on our record from last year. We are excited to play so many East Coast teams, but even more so, our mid-west opponents will bring top-10 games to the fore and we embrace each of those match ups.
In what ways will this season be a new dynamic for the Ball State field hockey program?
SN: In all of the above! We are focused on working together to bring out the best in each other. The team voted for their captains this season in order to solidify who they regard as their leaders. In addition, the entire senior class is responsible for leading and holding themselves and their team mates accountable for all the little details that make up the bigger picture.
The Ball State field hockey team will open the regular season this Saturday, Aug. 29 at Rutgers, followed by a matchup with Lafayette in Easton, Penn. on Sunday.
