Men?s Basketball to Take Foreign Tour to Bahamas
June 17, 2015 | Men's Basketball
The Ball State men's basketball team will take an early August foreign tour to the Bahamas in preparation for the 2015-16 season.
The Cardinals will leave Aug. 3 for Nassau and return Aug. 8. The team will play evening games Aug. 5 against the PJ Stingers and Aug. 7 against the Bahamas All-Stars at The Kendal G. L. Isaacs National Gymnasium. The Cardinals will also spend time practicing and touring the island.
"We are excited about the season ahead of us, and this trip will provide invaluable practice time and team-bonding experiences for our players," Ball State coach James Whitford said. "It is a chance for us to develop as a team while also introducing our guys to a different part of the world.”
The NCAA allows teams to take a foreign trip once every four years. Ball State's most recent trip was to Vancouver, Canada, in August 2011. The Cardinals went 4-0 on that tour.
Teams taking a foreign trip are allowed 10 full team practices during the summer. Ball State players will remain in Muncie following the second summer session to practice leading up to the trip, which is organized by Sport Tours International.
Ball State returns 11 players from last year's roster, including three who averaged double-figure scoring: MAC Freshman of the Year Sean Sellers (12.0 ppg), Jeremie Tyler (12.0) and Franko House (10.3). Former Youngstown State transfer Ryan Weber will join the mix after sitting out last season.
The Cardinals also welcome four newcomers to the active roster for next season in freshmen Tahjai Teague and Trey Moses and eligible transfers Naiel Smith and Nate Wells.
