Baseball Falls to Indiana; Hosts NIU Thurs-Sat.

Ball State's baseball team suffered a 9-5 loss to Indiana at Ball Diamond in the First Merchants Ballpark Complex in Muncie, Ind., Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cardinals fell to 28-22 overall, while Indiana improved to 29-20 on the season.
Ball State will return to Mid-American Conference action Thursday through Saturday at Ball Diamond with a three-game series vs. Northern Illinois. The Cardinals will host the Huskies at 3 p.m. Thursday, 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
Indiana jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings before the Cardinals managed a three-run fourth frame to close the gap. The inning started with a single from Alex Call, and after one out, Elbert Devarie singled. Sean Kennedy responded with a single up the middle to score Call. A run-batted-in single from Scott Tyler scored the second Cardinals' run and then Matt Eppers single closed the gap to 5-3.
The Hoosiers responded with two more in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead before Ball State added one in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by Ryan Spaulding.
IU scored two more in the ninth to take a 9-4 lead before Devarie's single in the bottom of the ninth scored Jarett Rindfleisch, who tripled with two outs.
Trevor Henderson started the game and fell to 2-4 with the loss in a game that saw Ball State use seven pitchers in the midweek contest.
