GENEVA, Ohio - The Ball State men's swim and dive team finished in seventh place with 127 points after Saturday's final events at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted at SPIRE Institute.
Senior Joseph Morris rounded out the tournament with an individual third place finish in the 200 breaststroke. His time of 1:56.98 was not only an NCAA B cut with three seconds to spare, but also marks a new Ball State school record. The finish was the Cardinals top of the championships, as well as Morris' second individual top eight and third individual top-16 time. Morris was also named to All-MAC Second Team after his performance this year.
Other Ball State top times included sophomore Tanner Barton who touched the wall at 1:50.15 in the 200 fly for 12th overall, making it his first individual top 16 of the week. Junior Cole Smith reached 15th in the 100 free finals with a 45.95 time, making it his second individual top 16 mark, while freshman Isaac Walling clocked 16th in the 1650 free, making it his second top 16 finish of the MAC Championships with a 16:17.21 time.
The combination of seniors Neal Fennig and Morris, junior Smith and sophomore Austin Green rounded out the MAC Championships in the 400 freestyle relay event. The team finished sixth with a time of 3:07.48, which ties the team season high that was set Dec. 5 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.
Over the course of the championship, Ball State earned 10 top 16 finishes, including six individuals, as well as four top eight spots, with the two individuals being marked by Morris.
Eastern Michigan earned the first place title with a final score of 777.5. They were tailed by 2014 MAC Champion Missouri State at 757.5 and Buffalo at 517.
