No. 4 BYU Sweeps No. 13 Men?s Volleyball

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The No. 13 Ball State (9-6, 4-3 MIVA) men's volleyball team fell in a narrow 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 23-25) sweep to No. 4 Brigham Young University (12-3, 10-2 MPSF) Friday evening, while the Cougars earned their sixth home sweep of the season.
Leading the Cardinals offensively was freshman Matt Walsh and senior Shane Witmer who each posted eight kills. Walsh set a .429 attack percentage in the process, while also notching four block assists and one ace. Witmer earned solid all around stats with the addition of seven digs, 26 receptions with a .963 percentage and one block assist.
Junior Marcin Niemczewski stepped up at the serving line, earning two of the team's three aces, as well as six kills at the net. He was assisted by setter Hiago Garchet who tallied 34 assists on 81 attempts for a .420 percentage, in addition to marking seven digs and two block assists.
Ball State suffered from 17 service errors and 22 attack errors compared to BYU's eight service errors paired with 14 attack errors.
The Cougars held the advantage in attack percentage (.227-.160), blocks (9.0-7.5), and digs (28-26) despite falling in total attacks (94-75), aces (3-2) and kills (37-31) to the Cardinals through the three set match.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will round out the series with BYU on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. mountain time.
