Men?s Golf Ties for Third at EY Match Play

DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Ball State men's golf team fell 4-2 to Eastern Michigan in the second and final round of the weather-shortened Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play.
The Cardinals shared third place with Miami University, which lost in the other semifinal match to Toledo. Eastern Michigan and Toledo were crowned co-champions of the fourth-annual event on the South Course at Lake Jovita Golf &Country Club.
The teams completed the second round Tuesday after it was suspended Monday because of rain. The suspension meant there was not time to play third round.
McCormick Clouser and James Blackwell provided the points for Ball State in the loss to Eastern Michigan.
The Cardinals had a chance for a half point in Zach Yinger's match, which came down to the final hole, but EMU's Michael Blair emerged with a 1 up win. Ball State's Michael VanDeventer and Johnny Watts both suffered 2&1 losses in close matches.
Clouser and Blackwell finished 2-0 for the event. Both players also won their matches Monday in Ball State's 4-2 victory over Seton Hall in the first round.
The match play tournament marked Ball State's first event of the spring season. The Cardinals will return to action March 15-16 back in the Sunshine State, hosting the Talis Park Challenge at Talis Park Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
