Cross Country Ends Season at Great Lakes Regional
November 13, 2015 | Cross Country
MADISON, Wis. - - The Ball State cross country team saw its 2015 campaign come to a close Friday afternoon, as three Cardinals competed in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Madison.
Leading Ball State's runners to the line was junior Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) who clocked a season-fast 23:29.2 in the 6K race which featured 32 teams and 215 student-athletes from around the Great Lakes Region. The meet also included three programs ranked among the top 25 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, with seventh-ranked Michigan taking home the event title with 69 total points.
Rinehart's time of 23:29.2 at the championship course in Madison, Wis., was almost 24 seconds faster than her previous season-best 6K performance, in which she was Ball State's third-best performer at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Akron (Oct. 31).
Also running for the Cardinals in Friday's Great Lakes Regional were junior Jordan Timmons (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) and sophomore transfer Kitty Taylor (Newburgh, Ind./Castle/St. Mary-of-the-Woods College), who turned in times of 23:33.7 and 24:27.2, respectively.
Ball State's distance runners will now begin their preparation for the 2015-16 indoor track & field season, which is scheduled to begin Dec. 5 with the Cardinals competing at the Mastodon Open hosted by IPFW.
