MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's basketball program has signed Kyle Mallers of Fort Wayne Carroll High School to a National Letter of Intent.
A 6-foot-7 wing, Mallers was a core member of the Indiana Junior All-Stars last season, meaning the state's coaches viewed him as one of the top six juniors in Indiana. He will play his senior season at Carroll this winter.
“We are really excited to add Kyle Mallers to our basketball family,” Ball State coach James Whitford said. “Kyle is incredibly talented and very skilled with the ability to shoot, dribble and pass. His versatility allows him to play all over the floor. He was a high priority for us, and he is going to have a great career here in Muncie.”
Mallers averaged 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season for a Carroll team that posted the best record in school history at 23-4. He shot 50 percent from the floor and 38 percent from 3-point range in helping the Chargers win a sectional championship. His team lost by two points in the regional to eventual Class 4A state champion Homestead.
Mallers was named to the Underclass All-State Supreme 15 by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. He was an All-Northeast Hoosier Conference First Team selection and an all-area choice by The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel.
He also played for the Spiece Indy Heat of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League.
Mallers is the latest in a recent line of in-state products to sign with Ball State. The Cardinals signed three Indiana All-Stars in their previous two recruiting classes and added a fourth via transfer.
