Men's Swim & Dive Kicks Off Season In Red/White Meet

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's swimming and diving team held its annual Red and White Intrasquad meet Friday evening at the Lewellen Aquatic Center to kick off the 2015 season.
The White Team narrowly came out on top with 90 points, while the Red Team registered a score of 85.
White Team captain Tanner Barton finished first in two events, including the 200 medley relay (1:37.54) with teammates Nate Slack, Luke Nondorf and Austin Green, as well as in the 100 fly in a 52.85 fashion. Other White Team top finishes came in the 100 free when Green touched the wall in 47.64, and Slack's 54.42 finish in the 100 backstroke. Junior JD Middleton rounded out the White Team top times when he clocked a 4:58.64 in the 500 freestyle.
Senior Cole Smith, captain of the Red Team, finished first in the 50 freestyle (21.65) as well in the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.33) with teammates Andrew Carlson, Logan Kisinger and Banistre Lienhart to close out the meet. Carlson earned an individual event win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.95, while fellow junior Jacob Eckert followed with a 2:01.01 final in the 200 IM for first. Freshman Cullen Tyler rounded out the top swim times for the Red Team with a 1:01.60 time in the 100 breaststroke.
In diving action, freshmen Gabe Dean and Lane Sawyer split the one- and three-meter events for the White and Red teams, respectively, when Dean topped out the one-meter with a 99.90, and Sawyer earned a 118.65 in three-meter action.
The men's swimming and diving team will officially open the 2015-16 regular season Saturday, Nov. 21 when they host the 12th annual Doug Coers Invitational with the women's swimming and diving team at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
