Numerous Baseball Players Shine on Scout Day
October 13, 2015 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. — Monday was the Ball State baseball team's annual Scout Day at Ball Diamond. The Black team won the nine-inning scrimmage over the White squad, 7-1.
"It was great seeing such a large turnout of scouts for our scout day,” head coach Rich Maloney said. “This reminded me of the late 1990s when our Ball State teams were getting a lot of pro attention. I think this was great fun for our boys."
Junior shortstop Alex Maloney finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Black team. Maloney also walked once and stole a base. Sophomore Colin Brockhouse, who earned 2015 Summer Collegiate All-America honors, hit the only other Black home run. Brockhouse went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He also pitched the final inning for the Black team, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
On the mound, junior righty Zach Plesac tossed the first two innings for the Black squad. Plesac held the White team off the scoreboard while striking out five batters.
The White team's lone run came in the top of the fifth inning with senior Nick Hollowell came up with a solo home run.
The Black team scored in five consecutive innings beginning with the second frame.
Ball State had a memorable 2015 campaign, compiling a 33-25 record and advancing to the MAC championship game.
