Cross Country Places Three On Academic All-MAC Team

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Three members of the Ball State cross country team have been named to the 2014 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Cross Country Team as announced Monday (Jan. 5) by the league office.
For the second consecutive season, twin sisters Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) both earned the honor, while sophomore Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) received the honor for the first time in her career.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. A total of 65 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MAC Team for women's cross country.
A nursing major with a 3.865 grade-point average, Courtney Edon was Ball State's top finisher in all seven meets this past fall. She recorded a career-fast 6K time of 22:32 to place 52nd at the MAC Championship (Nov. 1), while adding a career-fast 5K time of 18:02.0 to place 71st at the Notre Dame Invitational (Oct. 3). Edon also won the Ball State Invitational (Oct. 16) with a 5K time of 18:31.1.
A nursing major with a 3.794 GPA, Caitlynn Edon competed in all seven meets for the Cardinals this past fall and was the team's second-fastest runner in the final six events. She turned in a career-best 6K time of 23:19 at the MAC Championship to place 84th overall, and logged a career-best 5K clocking of 18:30.70 to place 15th at the Miami Invitational (Sept. 13).
A nursing major with a 3.785 GPA, Ericka Rinehart competed in six of Ball State's seven meets this past fall. She placed 89th at the MAC Championship with a career-fast 6K time of 23:26. Rinehart also logged a season-fast 5K time of 19:20.5 to place 159th at the Notre Dame Invitational (Oct. 3).
