Men's Tennis Earns 5-2 Victory Over Eastern Illinois

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team defeated Eastern Illinois 5-2 Sunday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win the Cardinals improve to 2-2 on the season while the Panthers fall to 0-2.
Ball State jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage after taking the doubles point from Eastern Illinois. At the No. 2 position, the Cardinals duo of Ray Leonard and Andrew Stutz took down the Panthers twosome of Ryan Henderson and Rui Silva by a score of 6-3. Collin Rigney alongside Matt Helm managed a 6-2 victory over Grant Reiman and Trent Reiman at No. 3 doubles.
Lucas Andersen and Patrick Elliott put the Cardinals up 3-0 after winning in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions respectively. Leonard would fall to Robert Skolik at the No. 3 spot 6-4, 6-4 to give the Panthers their first point of the match. Stutz dropped his first set 6-4 at the No. 5 position to Silva but fought back to win the next two sets 6-2 which clinched the match for the Cardinals. Jan Jirus suffered a three set setback to Henderson at the No. 4 slot before Rigney ended the day with a three set defeat over Grant Reiman at No. 6 singles.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to the road Friday at 7 p.m. against Cleveland State before returning back home to host Big Ten foe Michigan State, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
