September 06, 2014 | Field Hockey
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Ball State (3-0) field hockey team claimed another win after defeating Colgate (1-3) 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
The undefeated Cardinals recorded the win with first career goals from both sophomore Ally French (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) and junior Cameron Daniels (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox).
“Today wasn't pretty. We struggled to stay composed, but we never stopped fighting,” Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. “Winning was great and we hope to keep getting better every day.”
Junior goalkeeper Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) faced nine shots on goal from the Raiders and had eight saves on the day for a 0.888 save percentage. Today Henley registered her third consecutive game of only allowing one goal against. Colgate's goalkeeper Maria Krull made five saves on the day.
French opened the scoring in the 30th minute followed by Daniels in the 40th minute. Colgate responded quickly in the 44th minute to add a tally to the board, but failed to get anything past Henley the remainder of the game.
Seniors Bianca Velez (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam/Beach Premier) and Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/BC Cyclones) both recorded their second assists of the season.
This is the first time since late in the 2006-07 season the Cardinals have won three consecutive games.
The Ball State field hockey team is back in action tomorrow, when they take on Syracuse at 1 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.
