Cardinals Travel East To Take On Colgate & Syracuse

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (2-0) will head east this weekend to take on Colgate Saturday and Syracuse Sunday. The Cardinals are the lone remaining undefeated team in the Mid-American Conference this season.
Ball State also leads the MAC in points (22), goals (8), goals per game (4), assists (6) and assists per game (3). Defensively, the Cardinals have surrendered only two goals against and a 1.00 goal against average.
Junior goalkeeper Shelby Henley leads the conference in goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.818). The Novi, Mich. native is also fifth in saves (9) and fifth in saves per game (4.5).
Sophomore Lexi Kavanaugh (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon Verona Sherrill) and junior Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa/Warwick) are tied for first in the MAC rankings in points with eight a piece. Kavanaugh, along with Han, have each scored two goals for the Cardinals this season.
As a team, Ball State leads the conference high records in points (12), goals (4) and assists (4) from its game against Davidson.
SCOUTING COLGATE: Colgate currently holds a 1-1 record in the 2014 season. The meeting with the Cardinals will be the Raiders' fourth home game of the season. Whitney Jones, Eliana Brown and Jade Dennett have each scored a goal for Colgate. Goalkeeper Amanda DiDomizio has allowed six goals against with eight saves on the season.
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's game marks just the third meeting Ball State and Colgate. The Cardinals evened the series at 1-1 after defeating the Raiders 2-1 at the BSU Turf Field Sept. 8, 2013, in a game which saw a pair of goals by Tarel Teach.
SCOUTING SYRACUSE: Syracuse is 4-0 to start the season and will open its home schedule this weekend. Lauren Brooks, Annalena Ulbrich and Jordan Page have each scored four goals for the Orange and Emma Russell leads the team with five goals this season. Goalkeepers Rebecca Congel and Jess Jecko have only allowed three goals against and have a combined total of nine saves.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
