Men's Tennis Complete Day Two Of Fall Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's tennis team finished its second day of competition at the 36th annual Ball State Fall Invitational Saturday evening at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
In singles action, sophomore Lucas Andersen advanced to the quarterfinals after Friday's win but lost to Zach Berry of Dayton by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Also in the Flight A bracket, senior Patrick Elliott advanced to Sunday's final match after defeating Andre Romanello of Marquette (6-3, 6-2) and then later defeated Cam Tehrani of Marquette in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. Elliott will take on Dayton's Zach Berry Sunday at 9 a.m. in the championship match.
In the singles Flight B bracket, newcomer Colin Rigney beat Jose Nader Calero in straight sets and then took down IPFW's Tom Sizeland, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the championship match on Sunday at 9 a.m. versus Christian Gonzales of Chicago State.
In consolation Flight A bracket, senior Ray Leonard advanced to the semifinal round Sunday at 9 a.m. after beating Mario Noboa of Chicago State 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
In doubles play, Rigney and Leonard won 8-6 in the morning but fell in the afternoon match. Andersen and Elliott will play in the final round together at 11:30 a.m. Jan Jirus and Patrick O'Connor defeated Bradley Luetschwager and Matt Moe of IUPUI, 8-7 (5) but fell in the afternoon match. Patrick Downs and Matt Helm were also winners but the twosome fell in the semifinals to Colin Bernier and Simon Jayaram of Dayton, 8-4.
The Ball State men's tennis team will conclude the annual Ball State Fall Invitational Sunday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center with the first matches beginning at 9 a.m.
