EVANSTON, Ill. – The Ball State (3-4) field hockey team fell 5-1 to Northwestern (6-3) Sunday afternoon. Junior Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa/Warwick) scored the lone goal for the Cardinals unassisted.
Han was aggressive offensively with five recorded shots and four on net. The goal was Han's fourth of the season, leading the Cardinals. Seniors Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes/Beach Premier/Icoyo) and Bianca Velez (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam/Beach Premier) also tallied shots on goal for the day.
“Today was exactly what we needed to get us ready for Central Michigan,” Ball State field hockey head coach Beth Maddox said. “We used today to work on some different things and I am confident that we will be ready for next weekend.”
The Wildcats first got on the board in the 14th minute with a Dominique Masters goal, followed by Carolin Troncelliti and Isabel Flens, all scored on penalty corners. Ball State drew five penalty strokes throughout the match to Northwestern's 15.
Junior goaltender Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) tallied nine saves to Northwestern's Lindsay von der Luft's six, giving Henley a 0.643 save percentage.
“This team has no idea how good they can be, and that is really exciting for me,” Coach Maddox went on. “I can't wait to show everyone next weekend how incredible this team is.”
The Ball State field hockey team will be back at home Saturday, Sept. 27, when they take on Central Michigan and Sunday, Sept. 28 against Saint Louis. Both matches will be played at 1 p.m. on the Ball State Turf Field at the Briner Sports Complex.
