Men's Tennis Closes Out Play at Milwaukee Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Ball State men's tennis team closed out play at the 39th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sunday, which was hosted by Marquette.
Ball State faced Wisconsin in doubles play for the first match of the day, senior Patrick Elliott paired up with sophomore Lucas Andersen to earn an 8-5 victory over Jakhongir Jalalov and Jose Carranza. Sophomores Patrick Downs and Matt Helm beat Josef Dodridge and Darius Mackenzie, 8-5.
In singles action Sunday, Ball State won five of its six matches over Air Force in straight sets. Sophomore Lucas Andersen defeated Grant Taylor 6-1, 6-4 while teammate senior Patrick Elliott managed a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lucas Fumagalli. Senior Ray Leonard took down his opponent Andrew Parks, 6-2, 6-3. Newcomer Jan Jirus was also a winner along with teammate sophomore Patrick Downs.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues fall action Sept. 19-21 at the Indiana Hoosier Fall Tournament in Bloomington.
