Men's basketball player Francis Kiapway started the season on the sidelines, watching his fellow freshmen enjoy early success while he completed a long recovery from offseason surgery.
It was a challenging road back to the court, filled with ups and downs in practice as he worked to regain the confidence that had been robbed of him by months away from the game.
Then Kiapway experienced a breakthrough. Last Saturday against Indiana State, the Canadian guard buried two clutch 3-pointers in the closing minutes to help the Cardinals seal a come-from behind win against one of their biggest rivals.
