XC Travels To Mount Pleasant For MAC Championship
October 30, 2014 | Cross Country
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Months of preparation culminate Saturday at 11 a.m. for the Ball State cross country team when it approaches the starting line for the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship hosted by Central Michigan at the Pleasant Hills Golf Course in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
The 6K meet will feature all 12 league schools, with Miami looking to defend its title from last season's race at Bowling Green's Forrest Creason Golf Course. Akron enters the meet as the top-ranked team in the conference, holding the ninth slot in the Great Lakes Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings. Central Michigan is the only other league school in the top 15 in the poll, at 11th.
In its lone 6K race during the 2014 regular season, Ball State placed third out of four teams at the Ohio Invitational (Sept. 5). Three of Ball State's nine runners turned in career-best 6K times in the meet.
For the second consecutive season, senior Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) enters the MAC Championship as Ball State's top runner, having led the Cardinals in all six meets this season. She clocked a career-best 5K time of 18:02.0 at the Notre Dame Invitational (Oct. 3) and a season-best 6K effort of 23:10.26 at the Ohio Invitational.
Senior Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) has followed closely in the twin sister's footprints, finishing as Ball State's second-fastest runner in each of the last five meets. She earned a career-fast 5K time of 18:30.70 at the Miami Invitational (Sept. 13) and a season-best 6K time of 23:51.73 at the Ohio Invitational.
At last year's MAC Championship meet, the Cardinals combined for an average 6K time of 23:53.00 to place 12th overall with a score of 350 points. Courtney Edon led the Cardinals to the finish line, placing 42nd among scored runners with a time of 23:01.93.
