Henley, Kavanaugh Named Players Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – After a weekend sweep of Missouri State and Michigan State, both Lexi Kavanaugh and Shelby Henley have been named the Mid-American Conference Players of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Ball State sophomore forward/midfielder Kavanaugh has been named MAC Offensive Player of the Week following her eight-point weekend.
The Sherrill, N.Y. native turned in a career-high on Oct. 11, scoring three of Ball State's five goals in the 5-0 win against the Bears. Kavanaugh followed up her first career hat trick performance by scoring the game winning goal in overtime to lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory Sunday over Michigan State.
With the weekend in the books, Kavanaugh has totaled six goals since the start of the season and the weekly honor is the first for Kavanaugh in her career.
Junior goalkeeper Henley has also been named MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her success in the Cardinals last two games.
Henley, a Novi, Mich. native, registered her fourth career shutout Saturday against Missouri State followed by recording a 0.750 save percentage in Sunday's overtime win against Michigan State. On the weekend, Henley allowed just one goal on 10 shots on net for an outstanding 0.900 save percentage.
Henley is currently ranked seventh in the nation with her 6.15 saves per game average and first in the MAC with her 2.53 goals against average while ranked second with her 0.705 overall save percentage.
The Ball State field hockey team returns to action Friday, Oct. 17, when it takes on Longwood at 7 p.m. in Farmville, Va.
