Cross Country Takes Third At IPFW Invitational

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - - Ball State's top five runners combined for an average time of 23:51.00 to help the cross country team open the 2013 season with a third-place showing at the 6K IPFW Invitational.
IUPUI took the top spot, with its scored runners combining for 23 points and an average time of 22:59.97. IPFW was second with a score of 39 (23:26.27), followed by BSU (65 / 23:51.00) and St. Francis (120 / 28:02.71).
Leading the pack for the Cardinals was junior Courtney Edon who placed sixth overall with a time of 23:12.28. It was the first time in her three-year career Edon has led the Cardinals to the finish line.
A pair of freshmen were the next to cross the line for the Cardinals, as Jordan Timmons placed 10th and Ericka Rinehart finished 13th with career-fast times of 23:46.39 and 23:53.40, respectively.
Sophomore Danielle Dahl also turned in a career-best effort at the meet, placing fourth on the squad and 17th overall with a time of 24:07.08.
Junior Caitlynn Edon rounded out Ball State's scored runners by placing 19th with a time of 24:15.83.
Also running for the Cardinals were sophomore Katelyn DeVries (20th / 24:38.32), junior Madelyn Webster (21st / 25:12.64), sophomore Becca Kropf (27:25.48 – career-fast) and sophomore Jordan Jenkins (29:48.27 – career-fast).
The Ball State cross country team returns to action Friday, Sept. 13, when it travels to Bowling Green for the Mel Brodt Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 7:10 p.m.
