
Women's Tennis Claims 6-1 MAC Victory Over Toledo

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 Mid-American Conference victory Friday over Toledo at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Cardinals (12-8) improved to 3-1 in MAC action which is the best start for Ball State since 2004. Toledo falls to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in league competition.
Ball State swept all three of its doubles matches. At the No. 1 spot Courtney Wild and Courtney Earnest downed Lexy Pitt and Emily Mazzola, 8-4. The duo of Bethany Moore and Kristel Sanders captured an 8-4 win over Mackenzie Bowman and Pia Rygh at No. 2. Lauren Pickrel and Paola Rodriguez were also winners at No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
Wild gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at first singles, taking a straight set victory over Nguyen. Wild did not give up a game in the first set over Nguyen winning 6-0. With the achievement Wild improved to 17-3 overall and 4-0 in the MAC.
Earnest was the next to win for Ball State at the No. 2 position, defeating Rygh in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Kristel Sanders became the fourth player in the lineup to clinch her match in straight sets. Moore and Rang also won in their respective positions. Rang lost her first set 6-2 but fought back to win 6-1, 6-3 over Carvajal.
The Ball State women's tennis team will continue Mid-American Conference action at home Saturday against Eastern Michigan at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. First serve is at 1 p.m.
