Field Hockey Falls to Davidson, 4-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Ball State field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Davidson on Sunday, Sep. 2 in Louisville, Ky. Freshman Allie White (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) scored her first collegiate goal in the effort.
"Each game we are focusing on making progress," said head coach Beth Maddox. "Today we did some things well and others not well enough. We have made some adjustments for tomorrow and are excited to take on Louisville."
The Wildcats (2-2) got on the board early, with Amato Finley scoring a goal off a penalty corner at the 5:23 mark. Finley would finish the game with a hat trick, scoring goals in the 42nd and 61st minutes. Melissa Funsten who assisted on two Finley goals connected on a goal in the 46th minute.
White got on the board for the Cardinals (1-2) in the 34th minute getting a deflection off a penalty corner from Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes). The goal was White's only shot of the day.
The Wildcats held the advantage in shots, 19-5, and penalty corners, 10-7, but the Cardinals were able to corral nine saves to the Wildcats' five.
Freshman Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) played all 70 minutes in between the posts for the Cardinals. She made eight saves, while allowing four goals.
