Field Hockey Travels to Northwestern, Then Comes Home

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (1-4) faces No. 11 Northwestern Saturday, Sep. 15 before heading home to host Lindenwood on Sunday, Sep. 16 for the first game of the 2012 season at the BSU Turf Field.
Freshman Allie White (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) connected on her second goal of the season in the 6-1 loss to Longwood. Classmate Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) notched her first collegiate assist last weekend. Han and sophomore Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) led the team in shots, with 10 each.
Freshmen Shelby Henley (Novi, Mich./Novi) and Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) continue to split up the goalkeeping duties for the Cardinals. Henley has made 21 saves, while Elliott has tallied 18.
The Cardinals are ranked No. 17 in the country with eight saves per game. Widrick ranks 24th in the country is goals per game at 0.8.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN: The No. 10 Wildcats are 6-1 this season, most recently grabbing a 4-2 victory over No. 9 Duke. The offense is led by Chelsea Armstrong and Tara Puffenberger who have scored seven and six goals respectively this season. Northwestern has also dished out 19 assists on the season. Maddy Carpenter spends the majority of time in goal for the Wildcats. She has made 24 saves this season and allowed seven goals. The Wildcats have a .586 shot on goal percentage and score 3.29 goals per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Northwestern leads the overall series 16-7-2 and is on a seven-game winning streak. The last meeting between these two squads was a 3-1 Northwestern win in Muncie on Sep. 13, 2011. These two teams first met in the 1981 season.
SCOUTING LINDENWOOD: The Lions are 2-3 this season and are coming off a 1-0 loss to Slippery Rock. Kristi O'Connor leads the offense for Lindenwood with five goals on the season for 10 points. Victoria Gil has made 37 saves this season and has a 1.71 goals against average. Lindenwood has a .164 shot percentage and makes 2.20 goals per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Sunday's match up will mark the first meeting between these two schools.
