Three Cardinals Earn MAC Academic Accolades

MUNCIE, Ind. - Seniors Devanny Kuhn and Gretchen Lulow have been selected to the 2011 Field Hockey Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, while classmate Caitlin Maguire recorded Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades, as announced by the league office.
After collecting Second-Team All-MAC honors for the second time in her collegiate career and a spot on the MAC All-Tournament team, Lulow earned Academic All-MAC honors for a second time. The exercise science major owns a 3.89 GPA after starting 51 games since joining the Cardinals and has tallied 10 goals and 16 assists for a total of 36 points.
During her senior season, the Ballwin, Mo. native tallied four goals versus Central Michigan (9/24), Missouri State 10/9) and Kent State (10/22), in addition to an assist against Miami (9/21) and is on her way to becoming a four-year member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
Kuhn owns a 3.38 GPA as a communication studies major and stands as a third-year recipient of the honor. An All-MAC First Team and MAC All-Tournament team selection, the Louisville, Ky. native posted goals against Rider (8/27), Miami (9/21), Ohio (10/1), Kent State (10/2), Central Michigan (10/16) and Missouri State (10/30).
Kuhn finished second on the team with seven goals and 17 points and led the Cardinals with 71 shots. She has started 75 games and has tallied 29 goals and 11 assists for a total of 69 points. The 29 goals and 69 points rank first among all active BSU players.
Maguire posted a 3.65 GPA as a political science major to earn All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades. The Louisville, Ky. made 20 appearances during her final season with the Cardinals and recorded a defensive save versus Michigan State (10/8). Maguire has started 53 games since coming to Ball State and has recorded five goals, two assists and two defensive saves. She has also earned NFHCA National Academic honors for two consecutive seasons.
A total of 14 student-athletes earned Academic All-MAC honors, with Central Michigan leading all schools with four selections, followed by Ohio with three selections.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
