
Field Hockey Drops 5-1 Decision to Central Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior defender Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) scored her first goal of the season, however the Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field.
The Chippewas outshot the Cardinals, 12-3, and recorded an 8-1 advantage on penalty corners. With the loss, Ball State owns an all-time record of 44-56 (.440) at BSU Turf Field since the facility opened Sept. 12, 1998.
At 14:52 mark, Lulow put the Cardinals on the board first with an unassisted shot just in front of the Chippewas' netminder Anastasia Netto.
Central Michigan would score twice before halftime and the Chippewas closed out the scoring in the contest with two late goals, the first at 60:40 mark off a corner.
For the Cardinals, seniors Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and Caitlin Maguire (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy) each tallied a shot, while freshmen Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and Laura Malinoski (Eastampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) recorded one and two defensive saves, respectively.
Freshman goalkeeper Haley Fusting (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) accumulated four saves in 70:00 of action in the cage.
Head coach Beth Maddox and the squad briefly exits league play Tuesday afternoon as the Ball State hosts Ohio State at 3 p.m. from the BSU Turf Field.
