
Field Hockey Shutout by No. 13 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Ball State field hockey fell to No. 13 Michigan, 5-0, Saturday morning at the Phyllis Ocker Field Hockey Field. The Wolverines outshot the Cardinals, 32-0, and connected on 5-of-20 shots on goal.
Michigan (5-2) paced the contest, recording 14 shots and eight penalty corners before halftime. Ball State (0-6) freshman midfielder Tori Widrick (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) finished with a defensive save, her first of the season.
The Wolverines' Emy Guttman scored the first goal of the day at 15:17 mark, then Michigan closed out the contest with four goals in the second period.
Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) and freshman netminder Haley Fusting (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) split time in the cage, after combining for a total of 14 saves in the cage.
Head coach Beth Maddox and the team takes on Miami (OH) at the BSU Turf Field Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. in the Cardinals' Mid-American Conference home opener. Ball State has tallied an all-time record of 43-55 (.439) at BSU Turf Field in Muncie, Ind. since the facility opened Sept. 12, 1998.
