MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team has been honored as a Spring 2011 Scholar All-America Team as announced Thursday afternoon by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
"I am pleased that the men were able to once again qualify as a Scholar All-America Swimming Team," said head coach Bob Thomas. "Our student-athletes continually put academics as their top priority."
The Cardinals finished the 2011 spring semester with a 3.14 team grade-point average to rank 22nd among the 47 teams posting at least a 3.00 GPA. Ball State was the third-highest ranked school from the state of Indiana, following Notre Dame and Evansville who tied for ninth with 3.30 team GPAs. BSU and Evansville were the only Mid-American Conference schools to earn the honor.
In Thomas' 32-years as head coach, the Cardinals have been named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team in all but one semester he has coached. In addition, the women's squad picked up the award each semester he was co-head coach of the program from 2004-05 through 2008-09.
