MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State men's swimming & diving head coach Bob Thomas announced the team's 11-meet schedule for the 2011-12 season Thursday afternoon. The schedule includes six meets at the Lewellen Aquatic Center, as well as three dual meets versus Mid-American Conference rivals.
"I am really looking forward to the start of the season," said Thomas. "With the group we have retuning this season, and our strong incoming class, we should fair very well in the conference this season."
Action in the 2011-12 season beings Oct. 22, when the Cardinals travel to league foe Evansville for a 1 p.m. swim. BSU will open its home schedule the next weekend with an Oct. 28 showdown against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The Cardinals follow the pair of dual meets with three straight invitational meets, beginning Nov. 11-12 at the IUPUI House of Champions.
The next weekend (Nov. 18-19), the Cardinals host the eighth annual Doug Coers Invitational, which honors the memory of the late Doug Coers (1967-1997), who was a four-year member of the Ball State men's swimming and diving program from 1986-1989.
BSU concludes its string of invitational meets Dec. 2-3, when it competes in the Eastern Michigan Invitational. The Cardinals close out the 2011 portion of its schedule Dec. 10 by hosting Michigan State.
After a month break for the holidays and training, the Cardinals gear up for the 2012 MAC Championships with three home dual meets surrounding a trip to the Butler Invitational (Jan. 22). The Cardinals host Eastern Illinois (Jan. 13) and league foes Miami (Jan. 28) and Southern Illinois (Feb. 3) to close out the regular season.
The 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships run March 1-3 at Miami's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio.
For qualifying individuals, the 2012 NCAA Zone Diving meet will be held March 8-10 at a site to be determined, while the 2012 NCAA Championships will run March 22-24 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Seattle, Washington.
