Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at Ohio State

Ball State's men's golf team, coming off a victory at its own Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, finished sixth at the prestigious Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Columbus, Ohio.
The Cardinals managed a 302-297-292=891 to finish behind four nationally ranked teams and Minnesota. Illinois, the nation's 11th ranked team won with an 857, while 35th-rated Kent State was second, 26th-ranked Ohio State was third and Iowa, ranked ninth in the nation, was fourth. Ball State finished ahead of Mid-American Conference foes Miami University (8th) and Eastern Michigan (9th).
Eric Steger, who began the final round tied for 40th, managed a final round 68 to tie for 20th. His 68 tied for the second lowest final round in the field. Steger's 76-77-68=221 led the Cardinals.
Tyler Merkel tied for 23rd with a 73-73-76=222, while Joe Gasser tied for 33rd with a 78-73-74=225. Alex Stinson managed an 80-74-74=228 to tie for 39th, and TJ Carpenter tallied a 75-82-84=241 to tie for 60th.
The Cardinals will compete at the MAC Championships Friday through Sunday at TPC River Bend Golf Course in Maineville, Ohio.
