Men's Golf Finishes Second at MAC Championships

Ball State's men's golf team finished second at the Mid-American Conference Championships at TPC River's Bend Golf Course in Maineville, Ohio, with four players finishing in the top 20.
Ball State managed a 297-295-296-292=1180, and finished second only to 34th-ranked Kent State's 1151. Eastern Michigan was third with an 1198, while Akron was fourth at 1200. Miami University (1213), Northern Illinois (1216), Bowling Green (1221), Toledo (1229) and Ohio (1247) completed the field.
Eric Steger finished third overall after firing a 69-71-75-74=289. Steger, whose 69 was the low first round score of the tournament, was one over par in the four rounds and finished third to Mackenzie Hughes of Kent State (-4) and John Hahn of Kent State (-2). Brett Cairns of Kent State was fourth at plus four.
Tyler Merkel tied for seventh with a 75-71-74-75=295, as a freshman.
Joe Gasser tied for 11h after firing a 78-76-74-300. Alex Stinson tied for 19th after carding a 76-83-73-71=303, and Tony Lazzara finished 35th with a 77-77-85-76=315.
Miami University hosted this year's 72-hole event at The TPC River's Bend, which played to 7,180 yards and to a par-72.
