MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving program has been named a Scholar All America Team for the Fall 2010 semester as announced by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
"I am very pleased with the commitment and quality of our teams' academic success," said Ball State head coach Bob Thomas. "They have continued to excel in the classroom even after putting in 20 hours a week of strenuous training."
The Cardinals finished the 2010 fall semester with a 3.10 team grade-point average to rank 21st among the 41-ranked teams. Ball State was the third-highest ranked school from the state of Indiana, following Notre Dame (8th; 3.25) and Evansville (20th, 3.11), while finishing ahead of Purdue (25th, 3.08). BSU and Evansville were the only Mid-American Conference schools to earn the honor.
In Thomas' 32-years as head coach, the Cardinals have been named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All America Team in all but one semester he has coached. In addition, the women's squad picked up the award each semester he was co-head coach of the program from 2004-05 through 2008-09.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action March 3-5, when it travels to Southern Illinois' Student Recreation Center Pool for the 2011 MAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.
